Assignments & Due Dates (due every week)
Discussion forums
The posts can help improve your communication skills. Initial posts on all prompts will be due Wednesdays by 11:59 p.m. EST with two separate replies due by Sundays at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Assessments
These will gauge your understanding of course concepts. You get two attempts, and the higher grade will be taken. These are timed and may be, but can vary, up to 60 minutes and are due Sundays by 11:59 p.m. EST.
Cengage Interactives
These videos relate to weekly readings and are can help with your learning objectives. They are due Sundays by 11:59 p.m. EST.
Assignments
Your readings and interactives will go toward your assignment completion each week. These are due Sundays by 11:59 p.m. EST.

Showing Your
Math
Math skills may also be essential for your academic success at UMA. Here are some key symbols, important concepts, formulas, and conversions to help you accurately show your work and navigate the math you may encounter in your time at UMA.
Basic Math Concepts
- Rounding to specific decimal place values
- Addition and subtraction
- Conversions such as:
- Fraction to a percentage and vice versa
- Different systems of measuring and temperature
- Traditional and international time
Symbols
Formulas & Equations
Days' Supply Formula
Days’ Supply = Total Quantity Dispensed/Dose X Frequency
Example: DS = 90 Total tablets dispensed/2 tabs per dose X 3 times per day; 90/6= 15 days’ supply
Show Your Work As: 90 / (2 X 3); 90/6 = 15
Quantity to Dispense Formula
Dose X Frequency X Duration (Days) = Total Quantity to Dispense
Example: 2 tablets X 3 times a day X 30 days = 180 tablets to dispense
Show Your Work As: 2 X 3 X 30 = 180 tablets
Dosing Calculations
Two methods used. Ratio and proportion method is in Dosage Calculations in RX1010.
Ratio and Proportion Method (also called 3-Step Method to solve for Y)
Dosage on hand/Amount on hand = Dosage desired/ Y Amount desired
Example: 50 mg/1 mL = 450 mg/Y mL; 50Y = 450; 50Y/50 = 450/50; Y = 9mL
Formula Method
D/H X Q = Y; D (desired dose)/H (have on hand) X Q (quantity) = Y (amount to give)
Example: 0.4 mg/0.35 mg X 1.5 mL = 1.7 mL
Conversions
Traditional and International Time
Between the hours of 1:00 p.m. (13:00) and 12:00 a.m. (24:00)
Add 1200 to traditional time to convert to equivalent international time.
Subtract 1200 from international time to convert to equivalent traditional time.
Example 1: 3:00 p.m. = 300+1200 = 15:00 international time
Example 2: 2212 = 2212 – 1200 = 10:12 p.m. traditional time
Celsius and Fahrenheit Temperature Scales
Fahrenheit to Celsius: Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature then divide the result by 1.8. Celsius: C = F-32/1.8
- How to show your work: Convert 98.6 degrees F to C
- Example: (F-32)/1.8 = Answer in Celsius
- (98.6 -32)/1.8; 66.6/1.8; = 37 Celsius
Celsius to Fahrenheit: Multiply by 1.8 and add 32. Fahrenheit: F = 1.8C + 32
- How to show your work: Convert 35 degree Celsius to Fahrenheit
- Example: 1.8 X 35 + 32; 63 + 32; Fahrenheit = 95
Metric and Household Measuring Systems
Ratio and Proportion Method
- Dosage on hand/Amount on hand = Dosage desired/ Y Amount desired
- Example: Within the metric system, convert 2 grams to mg.
- 1 g/1,000 mg = 2 g/Y mg; Y = 1,000 X 2; Y = 2,000 mg
- Example: Between the metric and household
systems, convert 45 mL to teaspoons (t).
- 1 t/5 mL = Y t/45 mL; 5Y = 45; 5Y/5 = 45/5; Y = 9 teaspoons (t)
