Are You Experiencing Difficulties Getting Your UMA Communications?

We've prepared some tips for the major email providers used by our students that can help ensure that you get all of your UMA communications.

Commonly Reported Gmail Issues:

  • Email ends up in the Spam Folder
  • Email lands in the Promotions or Updates tab in my Gmail box
  • Emails that I receive on my mobile device look really bad

Email ends up in the Spam Folder

Gmail will on occasion mark a message as spam. Once you have found the message in your spam folder:

  • Select the message
  • Click the “Not Spam” button that appears tat the top and bottom of your current view.

Unmarking messages will automatically move them to your inbox.

After unmarking the message, you should add the email address of that sender to your Contacts list.

Keep in mind that UMA has several departments that send communications to our students, so you may have to add multiple addresses to your contact list to stop this from happening again in the future. Learn more from Google.

Email lands in the Promotions or Updates tab in my Gmail box

Gmail introduced a way to manage your email with Inbox Tabs. Gmail sorts your email into one of these tabs, when you have this option enabled, but it isn’t always foolproof. These tabs are the:

  • Primary
  • Social
  • Promotions
  • Updates
  • and some users may have the Forums tab

To correct mis-sorted emails, you can move them to the apropiate tab.Without opening the email click and drag it to the priority inbox tab.

You may have to do this several times to get all your UMA email in your priority tab because emails sent from UMA and its representatives come from multiple addresses. Learn more about Inbox tabs and category labels from Google

Emails Displayed on Mobile Devices Look Really Bad

UMA wants you to get the information that we send where and when you need it the most. That’s why we have adopted a policy of sending out mobile adaptive or responsive emails. This allows us to get the information to you in a way that is easy to read and digestible on many devices.

  • The support of mobile adaptive/responsive emails varies not only by device but also by email client and operating system. If you get your email on an Android device using the Gmail app, you’ll often notice that the layout of these messages don’t look right. The information and message is all in tact, but the formatting looks bad.

To correct this issue, when the email is open on your mobile device:

  • tap the three dots menu on the upper right hand corner
  • select the Revert Auto-sizing option.

This will put the email back in its original format, but you may need to pinch and zoom to execute links or to even make the text readable. Once this is done it can not be undone for that particular email.
